For those who spend their days speculating with domain names and dreaming of making that big sale one day, the latest Domain Name Journal of the largest domain sales in 2007 should really get their mouths watering and their hopes up.
The report lists several domain names that were sold for at least a million dollars or more. They include computer.com ($2,100,000), seniors.com ($1,800,000), as well as tandberg.com, vista.com, scores.com, Chinese.com, guy.com and topic.com sold for $1,500,000, $1,250,000, $1,180,000, $1,129,008 and $1,000,000 for the last two respectively.
The highest reported sale for 2007 was a whopping $9,500,000 which is the amount that porn.com exchanged hands for.
After displaying so many zeroes after dollar signs, a word of caution is on order. It is virtually impossible for anybody to make a living from this kind of speculation with the intention of selling a domain name for a large amount of money. Out of these few big deals recorded for 2007, you can be sure millions of individuals speculated and ended up with absolutely nothing to show for their efforts.
In other words big domain name sales is akin to gambling in some casino with the odds heavily stacked up against you. I have even seen articles that claim to give tips on what you need to do to hit a jackpot with a domain name. In many cases, there are companies that are successful in this venture, but it is best that when speculating with domain names, one take on the investment with caution.
