Why Buying And Selling Domains Can be Profitable,  but Risky Business

Buying and selling of domains is no longer the straightforward simple thing it used to be in the past. Sadly it has attracted lots of con artists and many dishonest folks out to make a quick buck from many unsuspecting persons.

Picture the typical scenario where you have a domain or two that you are interested in selling. You no longer require this domain and would like to offload it and find a buyer who can give you a good price for it. Out of the blue you get an email from somebody offering you a price that shocks you. Say $5,000 or even $10,000. Naturally you are ecstatic. This should be a simple transaction where you end up selling your old domain for a price you never dreamed of. Except that there is one little problem, which you figure should not be a big deal. Your would-be domain buyer insists that he needs your domain appraised first.

Naturally the domain appraisal is not free but then you figure out that since you are selling for such a handsome price, there is really no problem in giving up a small fraction of your profits for some appraisal, if that makes the potential buyer of your domain happy.

So you pay some money for an appraisal and sure enough the results seem to be very positive and usually the so-called "appraisal" will come up with a price that is even higher than what your domain buyer is offering.

All should be well except that all of a sudden the person buying your domain loses interest.

You've actually been scammed. The whole idea was to get you to pay for the appraisal and so you can imagine how many persons end up paying for domain appraisals that come back so positive but end up with no buyer.

It is important that anyone buying or selling a domain should be extremely careful at all times.
