Last Minute Domain Name Auctions

Expired domain name auctions confuse many people. Yet they are simple enough to follow and understand.

To start with, it is important that you do a little research once you have identified a certain domain name that you are interested in which is expiring or about to be dropped. Your research should help you identify which particular auction house (also know as drop catcher in the industry) is affiliated with the domain's registrar. Registrars usually refer to these particular auction houses as their preferred auction partners.

It is also a good strategy to submit your bid for the particular expiring domain name to all the expiring domain name auction houses or drop catchers. This ensures that even if you do got it wrong over who is the preferred auction house for the particular registrar, you will still have covered everybody so your bid will end up being considered whatever happens and wherever the expired domain name will end up. The reason why this is important is because most times when an auction house does not receive any other bids, they will just quickly close and finalize the deal with the only bid that they have received.

The different expired domain name auction houses all have their slightly different ways of doing things. But if a domain name drops and there is more than one bid, then there is bound to be two to three day auction period where things get really interesting. One needs to be very alert to win, because it is something that is decided in the last 5 minutes or so.
